Nicholas Dorsey, Sr. (1686-1717) & Frances Hughes (1692-1725)

Nicholas Dorsey, son of Edward Dorsey and Sarah Wyatt, was born __ ___1686 in Annapolis, Anne Arundel Co., Maryland and died in __ Sep 1717 in Baltimore Co., Maryland. He was buried on 28 Sep 1717 in All Hollows, Baltimore Co., Maryland (All Hollows Parish Church Records).

 

Nicholas married Frances Hughes, daughter of ______ Hughes and _______ ______ on 20 Dec 1709 in Elk Ridge, Baltimore Co., Maryland, according to the St. Anne's Parish Records. Francis Hughes was born 18 May 1692 in Baltimore Co., Maryland, and died after 1725 in Baltimore Co., Maryland.

Nicholas Dorsey left a will dated 16 Sep 1717 which was probated 13 Feb 1718 at Baltimore Co., Maryland. (See Original Wills, Liber 14, folio 478;

WILL: (Abstract as follows:)

To sons Thomas, Nicholas, Benjamin and Edward Dorsey & heirs personality at age of 21 years. Sons to have liberty of choosing guardians at 18 years.

Should any of said sons die before coming of age, their portion to be divided among other survivors.

To son Thomas Dorsey & heirs, 50 acres of "Long Reach" near the Patuxant River.

To son Nicholas Dorsey & heirs, 50 acres of "Long Reach."

To son Benjamin Dorsey & heirs, dwelling plantation at decease of wife.

Executor: Frances Dorsey & residuary legatee
Test: Henry Ridgely, John Dorsey, son of Edward, Joshua Dorsey, Timothy Regan, Thomas Smith, & John Dorsey.

This will was signed with Nicholas' signature & Seal. (Located in the Hall of Records, Annapolis, Maryland)

Other than the above given records, little else is known about Nicholas Dorsey other than he died at an early age, only thirty-one years old, leaving his widow with four children.

  4. Edward DORSEY, b. about 1716 in Baltimore Co., Maryland,
