Biography of Nicholas Dorsey, Jr. (1712-1779)

Nicholas Dorsey Jr., son of Nicholas Dorsey and
Francis Hughes, was born about 1712 in Anne Arundel Co., Maryland and died
__ ___ 1779 in , Baltimore Co., Maryland. He married Sarah Griffith about 1737
in Baltimore Co., Maryland. Prior to the Revolutionary War, Nicholas Dorsey was
an active surveyor.
Despite his age at the time of the Revolutionary War, Nicholas served alongside
his sons in our battle for independence. Nicholas, himself, was commissioned a
Colonel of Maryland Troops. (See Muster Rolls of Maryland - Archives of Maryland
Volumes XVI, page 263; XXI, page 241) Nicholas’ service also has been
established by the DAR.
After the war, Nicholas Dorsey was also Judge of the Orphan's Court in Baltimore
County.
Last Will and Testament of Nicholas Dorsey
Devised: "Whereas my older children, viz: Rachel, Lydia, Nicholas, Charles,
Catherine, and Sarah, having already received their full proportion of my
proportion of my estate my will is that they shall have no further claim to more
than one shilling each.
To my son Henry Dorsey 15 pounds of current money.
My land called 'Charles Lott' to my son (grandson) Charles Dorsey, son of
Nicholas. The remainder of my estate to be divided among my younger children,
viz: Henry, Lucretia, Frances, Orlando, and Achsah, and in case any of my
younger children should die before they arrive at age, then their part shall be
shall be equally divided amongst my surviving younger children.
I make my wife, Sarah Dorsey, and my son, Nicholas Dorsey, Jr., Executors of
this my last will and testament.

Sarah Griffith (1718-1794)
Sarah Griffith, daughter of Orlando Griffith and
Katherine Howard, was born on 13 May 1718 in Anne Arundel Co., Maryland
and died 01 September 1794 in Baltimore Co., Maryland.
Nicholas Dorsey Jr. and Sarah Griffith had eleven children:
