John Howard (abt 1637-1696) and Susanna Norwood (abt 1639-abt 1696)By Ken Lindsay1052. John Howard, son of Matthew Howard and Anne Hall was born about 1637 in the Virginia Colony when Sir Francis Wyatt was its governor. Population of all the English Colonies in America at that time is estimated to be 28,000 people; however, 22,500 of those were in New England.Much research is needed on this family. If anyone reading this happens to have devoted any research to this particular branch of the Howard and Norwood families, please contact Ken Lindsay for possible collaberation. In November of 1640 the "Long" Parliament convenes in England and a Civil War erupted two years later. Sir William Berkeley replaced Sir Francis Wyatt as royal governor of Virginia in 1642. Lord Baltimore, to attract settlers, sent notice that all creeds will be protected in the Maryland Colony. That same year, 1643, the Virginia assembly enacted a law banishing non-conformist ministers. By 1644 the Puritans, persecuted by Governor Berkeley in the Virginia Colony, begin migrating to the Maryland Colony. On 06 August 1648 Lord Baltimore appointed William Stone, a Virginia Protestant as Maryland’s Governor, This caused several hundred Puritans under Richard Bennett to leave Virginia and settle Providence, near the present site of Annapolis. 30 April 1652 entered eight years of almost complete self-government. A bit later, 25 March 1655, a civil war erupted in Maryland whereby the Puritans deposed Governor William Stone; however, Lord Baltimore’s authority was restored in Maryland late in 1657. Very soon thereafter, in 1658, John Howard Jr. removed to the Maryland Colony. John died __ ___ 1696 in Round Bay, Anne Arundel Co., Maryland. John married Susanna Norwood about 1666 in Round Bay, Anne Arundel Co., Maryland. 1053. Susanna Norwood, daughter of John Norwood and Anne Harrington was born about 1639 in Anne Arundel Co., Maryland, and died there about 1696. A great amount of research has been done on the Norwood family; however, I have never participated in those medieval studies. I'm certain it could be most interesting. If I were to do so, I would see what has been done at the Family History Center of the LDS.John Howard and Susanna Norwood had at least one child:
