Biography of Cyrus Lindsay (1803-1884)

Cyrus6 LINDSAY, (John5, Anthony Jr.4,
Anthony3, Samuel2, Robert1),son of John and Susannah
(DOWDEN) LINDSAY, was born __ ___ 1803 in Henry Co., Kentucky, and died __
January 1884 in Hawesville, Hancock Co., Kentucky. He was buried by his wife and
father in an old abandoned cemetery near the community of Dukes in Eastern
Hancock Co., Kentucky.
Cyrus LINDSAY married 1st., 24 Oct 1826 in Dearborn Co., Indiana,
Mary JACKSON, daughter of William and Nancy (FORD) JACKSON.
She was born about 1807 in _______ Co., Kentucky, and died after 08 Sep 1839 in
Hancock Co., Kentucky. She was buried beside her husband n an old abandoned
cemetery near the community of Dukes in Eastern Hancock Co., Kentucky.
They had six children:

Indiana; d. about 1869 in Hancock Co., Kentucky; md. 1st 22 Feb 1847 in
Hancock Co., Kentucky, Nancy LYNCH, b. __ ___ 1830 in _______ Co.,
Kentucky, d. about 1852 in Hancock Co., Kentucky; md. 2nd. 06 Jun 1855 in
Hancock Co., Kentucky, Mahala Ann MAYS, b. about 1839 in Cloverport,
Breckenridge Co., Kentucky, d. about 1869 in Hancock Co., Kentucky.
- Andrew Jackson LINDSAY, b.24 May 1828 in Perry Co., Indiana; d.
after 1884 in ______ Co., Kentucky; md. 05 Jul 1853, Leah Jane ROOK, b.
__ ___ ____, d. __ ___ ____.
- Lewis B. LINDSAY, b. 11 Nov 1830 in Hancock Co., Kentucky; d. 13
Jul 1897 in Grayville, White Co., Illinois. He was a blacksmith, a Sgt. in
Company B, 87th Illinois Infantry during the Civil War. He burned to death and
never married. He is buried in the Grayville Cemetery.
- Rachel LINDSAY, b. 15 Mar 1832 in Hawesville, Hancock Co.,
Kentucky; d, __ ___ ____.
- William LINDSAY, b, 10 Apr 1835 in Hancock Co., Kentucky; d. 03 Apr
1906 in Ripley Co., Missouri; md. 26 Apr 1866 in White Co., Illinois, Alice
L. TAYLOR, b. 09 Dec 1844 in _______ Co., North Carolina; d. 15 Jun 1909.
- Michael Flake LINDSAY, 08 Sep 1839 in Hancock Co., Kentucky; d. 25
Jul 1921 in White Co., Illinois, Served in Company B, 60th Illinois Infantry
during Civil War. buried in Grayville Cemetery; md. 20 Nov 1887 in White Co.,
Illinois, Catherine SMITH, b. __ ___ ____; d. __ ___ ____.
Cyrus LINDSAY married 2nd., 28 January 1841, Mrs. Elizabeth
PATTERSON. She had children of her own as did Cyrus. This marriage didn't
last very long when he saw his children indentured to learn trades and went to
Grayville, in White Co., Illinois. Elizabeth divorced Cyrus in 1844, saying he
had abandoned her in 1841.
They had one child:
- Henry S. LINDSAY, b. __ ___ 1841 in Hancock Co., Kentucky; d. __
___ ____ in _______ Co., _______.
Cyrus LINDSAY married 3rd, at White Co., Illinois, in 1845, Maria
McKINNEY. After Maria's death, Cyrus before 1880, returned to live at
Hawesville, Hancock Co., Kentucky. He operated a tobacco store at Hawesville.
They had one child:
- Robert LINDSAY, b. 18 Jul 1846 in White Co., Illinois; d. 22 Jul
1864 serving with the U.S. Army at Morgan's Ferry, Louisiana.
