Lindsay's Fort
In the fall of 1965 I spent a few days researching the Historical Library
in Frankfort. Here, I learned of Lindsay’s Station north of Stamping Ground
in Scott County. At that time, a Kentucky Historical Marker along the
highway read differently than the one in its place, today. These differences
nearly drove me crazy for years because of the slight differences in
wording. I just recently learned that the marker was hit by a vehicle and
damaged beyond repair and disposed of in 1975. The new marker, also, was
numbered 218, was installed in 1978. The later, allowed more room for text,
the Society reports. Read my story of how and when Lindsay's Fort founded:

Anthony Lindsay, Sr. (1705-1777)
There are many memorials to various persons inside the church and the church
was somewhat damaged during the London Blitz of World War II. Anthony LINDSAY
was transported to Annapolis in the Maryland Colony from Newgate Prison in
London 12 April 1735 aboard the ship, "Patapscoe," captained by Darby
LUX. Let me point out that Newgate Prison was notoriously famous as a debtor's
prison until things were changed by John HOWARD, a famous English reformer.
It's only an assumption on my part, but I would guess Anthony was here because of
debt. He certainly was not there for theft as the records I've seen would have
shown that. Read more...

Margaret Scott
Margaret Scott, daughter of Samuel K.
and Eleanor (Connor) Scott, was born __ ___ 1824 in Illinois and died 13
September 1872 in Winslow, Pike Co., Indiana, and was buried near the front
entrance of Oak Hill Cemetery in Winslow. She, her husband and two children were
buried near some large Oak trees. These trees were uprooted by storms in the
late 1930s and destroyed her tombstone. I gathered the pieces and leaned them
against a concrete speaker's stand that was built near the Bryant Family Plot.
Her stone was still there in 2001.

Indian Treaty of 1677
Here is a verbatim copy of the Treaty between the Indians and the Virginia
Colony in 1677. The Indians were granted land which is illustrated showing
landowners in some USGS Maps of Colonial Southampton Co., Virginia, that shows
landowners in and around land granted to the Indians. Many people of the BRYAN
surname were property owners, both inside and on the fringes of the Indian Land.

Using Signatures in Documents
Have you ever had trouble identifying ancestors of
the same given name? Well, I have and found it led to many mistakes by earlier
researchers. One good example is the name Needham Bryan one of my
colonial ancestors. There were three Needham Bryans living in close
proximity to one another in Bertie County at the same time. One lived on a
plantation, named Snowfield who had a son by the same name and another
came down from Virginia and lived beside a William Bryan on Roquist
Swamp. The Roquist Swamp Needham Bryant and the son of Needham of
Snowfield moved to Johnston Co., North Carolina. Shortly, thereafter, the son of
Snowfield Needham died, but the one from Roquist Swamp lived on for many years.
Earlier genealogists failed to catch this and it has caused a problem ever
since. Click here to see how to conduct
a signature study.
